(Chemical Equation Presented) Without mercury or thallium: A new umpoled nucleophilic acylation reagent is formed in the direct deprotonation of 1,3,5-trimethyl-1,3,5-triazacyclohexane with butyllithium. The carbanionic center is flanked by two amino groups, even though lithiation at this position is expected to be disfavored (see scheme). © 2007 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA.
