Peyronie's disease: Extracorporal shockwave therapy (EPT) as a new treatment

In the past, Peyronie's disease has been treated conservatively with poor results. Operation is more sufficient, but has its complications. The extracorporal shock-wave therapy seems to be an effective minimal invasive treatment. We treated 19 patients with EPT and found good clinical outcome. In 10 patients with painful erection this vanished completely. 9 patients have had erectile dysfunction before treatment. It persisted only in 4 patients. The deviation improved much in 3 patients ([> 30-60 degrees) and minimal (about 10 degrees) in another 2 patients. Of the 14 patients, who were unable to perform cohabitation, this persisted only in 8 patients. In no case there was a worsening of clinical symptoms, even if the plaque got bigger on palpation and ultrasound in 5 patients and on the X-ray in 4 patients. With the absence of side effects, the EPT-treatment of Peyronie's disease can be recommended.
