Synthesis, single-crystal structural determination and solution characterization of a new sandwich-type cadmium-containing heteropolytungstate

摘要
The novel dimeric phosphotungstate, [P2W18Cd4(H2O)(2)O-68](10-), has been synthesized by an unusual reaction of A-beta-Na8HPW9O34 with cadmium nitrate under controlled pH conditions. This compound has also been synthesized by the reaction of B-alpha-Na8HPW9O34 with cadmium nitrate. The unambiguous characterization of B-alpha-[P2W18Cd4(H2O)(2)O-68](10)- was accomplished by means of elemental analysis, IR, P-31 and Cd-113 NMR spectroscopy, and confirmed by a single crystal X-ray structural analysis of the NH4+ salt. The heteropolyanion consist of two lacunary B-alpha-[PW9O34](9-) Keggin moieties linked via a rhomboid Cd4O16 group leading to a sandwich-type structure. Acidification of this anion, like other P2W18M4O6810- (M = Co, Zn, ...) species, forms the PW12O403- anions as the main product. (C) 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
