Measurement of interfacial free energy for ice/water system

摘要
The interfacial free energy between ice and water was determined by measuring the undercooling required to allow freezing to proceed through fine-pore cellulose acetate filters. Their pore size was determined from the minimum gas pressure needed to produce bubbling through the water-wetted filters. The value 31.7 +/- 2.7 ergs/cm(2) for the interfacial free energy for the ice-water interface was computed from the proportionality between the undercooling and the gas pressure.
