摘要
The importance of the formation of a photonic double-heterostructure that has resulted in the realization of nanocavities with extremely high Q-factors was discussed. It was found that the Q-factors that were greater than 20,000,000 could be obtained when optimizing the structures. The most important feature of the photonic double-heterostructure nanocavity was that the confinement of photons in the waveguide direction was not directly due to the photonic bandgap effect resulting from the periodic array of air holes. The results obtained indicate that the Q-factors could be increased to become comparable to those obtained for cavities in much large modal volumes and can accelerate developments in quantum communication, biosensing and other areas.
