摘要
This article provides an overview of the known causes of inherited and acquired thrombophilia and presents an approach to evaluating patients with venous thromboembolism. The epidemiology and clinical features of thrombophilia are discussed, as well as the underlying pathogenesis (when known). The authors present their approach to the clinical and laboratory evaluation of patients with venous thromboembolism and their family members and discuss how this information can be used to guide therapeutic decision making.
