Synthesis on the data dealing with growth and development of common ash (Fraxinus exceisior L)

摘要
This paper gathers the data dealing with the biology and the physiology of the common ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.). First, the general features of ash autecology are described. Then, physiology of the terminal bud and growth and development under controlled conditions are especially studied. Short correlations were evidenced between apical buds and their underlying tissues, stem precedes apical bud in the chronology of the dormancy. Long distance correlations involving carbohydrate pool changes were demons rated between the terminal bud, taproot and stem during the growth renewal in ash tree. Root system is an key element in the control of rhythmic growth. Results reviewed here show that development depend on the relations between the different parts of the plant. The work relative to renewal of the shoot elongation after defoliation make ash a good experimental material for studying the control of rhythmic growth.
