Pharmacodynamics is a science that integrates microbiological and pharmacokinetic data into more clinically relevant relationships. An understanding of pharmacodynamic concepts is essential for the clinician, for it forms the scientific basis for rational antimicrobial chemotherapy. Herein, fundamental pharmacodynamic principles and their application to clinical practice are discussed.
