A new noncontact metal-ceramic fluid acoustic emission sensor

摘要
A non-contact, metal-ceramic, fluid acoustic emission (AE) sensor that is sensitive to either cutting tool breakage or tool wear was developed. Based on piezoelectric transducer principles and the rules of AE signal propagation in fluid media, a lot of exploratory research work was done on the transducer structure, sensitive element, acoustic impedance matching material, and sound-absorbing material among others. The results show that the sensor has a wide frequency range, has high sensitivity to various AE signals, and can be used in tool wear monitoring and in tool breakage identification.
