Changes in molecular geometry caused by oxidation in Ru2 paddlewheel complexes:: from Ru24+ to Ru25+

摘要
[Ru-2(chp)(4)(thf)][BF4](Hchp = 2-chloro-6-hydroxypyridine) has been prepared and structurally characterized. The Ru-Ru distance is 2.2660(6) Angstrom. Comparison of the structure of this Ru-2(5+) compound with that of the previously known Ru-2(4+) complex, Ru-2(chp)(4)(thf), reveals that the changes caused by the increase in oxidation state are similar to those previously observed for the Ru-2(5+) to Ru-2(6+) oxidation, with the metal-metal bond becoming slightly longer, by 0.005(1) Angstrom, and all the metal-ligand bond lengths decreasing slightly.
