摘要
Previous research has shown that individual differences in causal uncertainty (Weary & Edwards, 1994) is significantly linked to depressive symptoms, but has yet to consider the potential mediating roles of appraisals and coping (Lazarus & Folkman, 1984). The present study examined the direct and indirect influence of causal uncertainty on primary and secondary appraisal, coping, and depressive symptoms in 365 college students. Results from conducting a path analysis indicated that the link between causal uncertainty and depressive symptoms was partially mediated by appraisals and coping. These results suggest that causal uncertainty has both direct and indirect influences (through appraisals and coping) on depressive symptoms. Implications for future research and development of appropriate interventions for reducing depressive symptoms are discussed.
