Crystal structure and microwave dielectric properties of (1-x)La(Zn1/2Ti1/2)O3-xSrTiO3 system

The crystal structure and microwave dielectric properties of the (1-x)La(Zn1/2Ti1/2)O-3-xSrTiO(3) system were investigated using X-ray powder diffraction and a network analyzer. The crystal structure of the solid solution approached that of a cubic perovskite with an increasing amount of SrTiO3. B-site cation ordering, in-phase tilting, and anti-phase tilting of oxygen octahedra disappeared at x = 0.4, 0.6, and 0.9, respectively. The relative permittivity (epsilon(r)) and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (tau(f)) of the solid solutions showed a nonlinear variation with no singularity In particular, epsilon(r) varied according to the mixture rule, 1/epsilon(total) = nu(1)/epsilon(1) + nu(2)/epsilon(2). This anomalous behavior was attributed to the structural characteristics of the system. The variation in tau(f) of the system is discussed in conjunction with other researchers' works.
