Transplantation of insulin-producing tissue could ultimately provided a cure for insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. Pancreas transplantation is a clinical reality, but transplantation of the islets of Langerhans might soon become a widespread alternative. A recent meeting* provided an overview of current progress.
