This paper reviews many aspects of the present and future implementation of combined heat and power (CHP) systems both in the UK and elsewhere. Attention is focused particularly on the past and present state of technology as well as on future possibilities, the environmental significance of the widespread use of CHP, and the financial and legislative barriers to increased implementation of such schemes.
