Faraday effect in (Pb2+,Th4+)-substituted magnetic garnets

摘要
In order to clarify the Pb2+ contribution to the magneto-optical and magnetic properties in garnets (Pb2+ Th4+)-substituted YIG were grown by an LPE method onto gadolinium-gallium garnet (GGG) substrates and the Faraday rotation (FR) in the visible wavelength region and the Curie temperature T-C were measured. A large negative FR was observed and the FR per Pb2+ ion at 633 nm was found to be about 80% of that per Bi3+ ion. T-C increases with the increase of Pb2+ in the films and Pb2+ contribution to T-C was found to be about 60% of Bi3+ one. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
