Pressure-induced structural phase transition in the two-dimensional Heisenberg ferromagnet K2CuF4

摘要
Recent magnetic-susceptibility measurements revealed a drastic change of the magnetism in K2CuF4 at about 8-9 GPa. We have made high-pressure powder x-ray-diffraction experiments of K2CuF4 up to 14 GPa at room temperature so as to study the correlation between the structure and magnetism. A structural phase transition was observed at around 9.5 GPa from the orthorhombic symmetry D-2h(18)-Bbcm to D(2h)19-Ammm. It is therefore. suggested that a ferromagnetic-to-antiferromagnetic phase transition is induced by the rearrangement of the CuF6 octahedra in the high-pressure phase.
