摘要
The exploration of the tension between the engineering story of rationally distributed computation and the political story of institutional change through decentralized architecture of internet is illustrated using peer-to-peer (P2P) networks. A complex array of architectures and institutions is available to everyone due to the addition of new service layers. The drive towards the decentralized architectures wil not serve the political purpose of the decentralized society. The radically improved information and communication technologies have opened new possibilities for the institutional change.
