Carbon nanotubes induced nonisothermal crystallization of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer

摘要
The semicrystalline ethylene-co-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) containing 10 wt.% carbon nanotubes (CNTs) was prepared by solution-processing techniques. Morphological observation indicates well dispersion of CNTs in EVA. The effect of carbon nanotubes on the nonisothermal crystallization of EVA was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The onset and maximum crystallization temperatures for the CNT/EVA composite are, respectively, about 10 and 5 degreesC higher than those for the neat EVA, indicating high nucleation ability of CNTs in EVA. However, the crystallization rate, characterized by half crystallization time, of the CNT/EVA composite is lower than that of the neat EVA. This results from the confinement of EVA chains on the surfaces of CNTs which withheld the growth of nuclei. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
