摘要：

A comparison of the semi-arid cratonic regions of monsoon monsoon West Africa and South India reveals that while the former is typified by 'ferruginous tropical soils,' the latter is extensively blanketed by soils exhibiting 'fersiallitic' properties, which are rare south of the Sahara. Such challenging differences can be understood taking into account the denudational history to explain the geography and properties of tropical soils. (C) Academie des sciences/Elsevier, Paris.
