The Denver approach to rehabilitation services

The psychiatric rehabilitation literature describes various models of successful programs and services, but effective ways to combine and integrate the models are infrequently offered. Indeed, typically a program model is described in contrast to other program models and determined to be the one best approach to psychiatric rehabilitation. I;or example, the clubhouse model has been pitted against supported employment (Glickman, 1993) and, even within the supported employment approach, the individual placement and support model has been empirically contrasted to vocational group skills training (Clark, Xie, Becker & Drake, 1998; Drake McHugo, Becker Anthony, & Clark, 1936). These comparisons, especially when tested empirically, have some utility but they can be misleading in their application when they are used to make generalized statements about which model is generally superior to the others.
