Interpolymer complexes between poly(N,N-dimethylacrylamide) and poly(acrylic acid) in aqueous system

摘要
Complex formation between poly(N,N-dimethylacrylamide) (PDMAAm) and poly(acrylic acid) (PAAc) was investigated by measuring the turbidity for the mixture of PDMAAm and PAAc buffered solutions at various pH values. PDMAAm/PAAc complexes were very stable even at 80 degrees C in distilled water (pH 3.2). The polymer mixture in buffered solution at pH 3.7 showed a lower critical solution temperature near 60 degrees C, although the solutions were transparent in the temperature range of 10-80 degrees C at pH 3.8. It was considered that a pH- and temperature-sensitive interpolymer complex was formed through hydrogen bonding as well as through hydrophobic interaction between PDMAAm and PAAc.
