Influence of ceramic interphase on the mechanical properties of T-300 carbon fiber composites

摘要
The effect of a ceramic interface on the mechanical properties of carbon-carbon composites was examined using a copolymer of tetra ethyleorthosilicate and dimethyldiethoxysilane as the precursor material for the interface. The interface was developed by coating the copolymer on the carbon fibers through liquid infiltration techniques. The carbonization of the polymer composites was carried out at 1000 °C in an inert atmosphere, and the appearance of the interface was observed with an optical microscope. The application of a suitable ceramic interface between the fiber and the matrix during fabrication improved the mechanical properties by a factor two of carbon-carbon composites developed from T-300 carbon fiber.
