摘要
Using data from Yaounde, this study examines the sources of care and financial support received by children born out of wedlock and how they differ depending on whether children have a recognized father or not. The study also explores the determinants of paternal recognition and child financial support at birth. Results indicate that the status of the sexual union in which a birth takes place and the desirability of conception are the strongest predictors of paternal recognition and support. Furthermore, paternal recognition is associated with higher level of paternal maintenance and unrecognized children are supported mainly by their mothers or their maternal grandmothers.
