Crystal structures and magnetic properties of Ba1-ySryPrO3 (0≤y≤1.0)

The perovskite type oxides Ba1-ySryPrO3 (0 less than or equal to y less than or equal to 1.0) containing tetravalent praseosdymium ions were prepared. Their powder X-ray diffraction measurements were carried out at room temperature and their magnetic susceptibilities were measured in the temperature range between 4.2 and 273 K. From the magnetic susceptibility measurements, it was found that the SrPrO3 has no long-range magnetic ordering and shows paramagnetic behavior down to 4.2 K. The result on the magnetic susceptibility for the Ba1-ySryPrO3 solid solutions (0 less than or equal to y less than or equal to 0.75) show that the magnetic interactions between Pr4+ ions were weakened with substituting strontium atom for barium site, which is ascribable to the lowering of the symmetry of the crystal structure.
