摘要
Application of carbon nanotubes as toughening agents in brittle ceramics and reinforced polymer composites is discussed. Useful properties include low density, high rigidity and hardness, even at high temperature, and low sensitivity to corrosion. These toughening agents can be localized either at the grain boundaries of the matrix material, or in the case of nanostructured toughening agents, inside the matrix grains.
