Quantum-confined atoms: novel luminescent centers for future II-VI devices

摘要
We report for the first time how the optical transitions associated with a localized impurity can be modulated by quantum confinement. The effect of quantum confinement on an impurity critically depends on the size of the host nanocrystal. The luminescent properties of Y2O3 : Tb3+ and ZnS : Mn2+ are discussed within the framework of the quantum-confined atoms. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
