摘要
The possibility of the use of ion implantation for reduction of friction coefficient of alumina has been studied. Two different approaches were used: formation of thin soft layer via noble gas irradiation and doping of surface layer via implantation of lubricant (In). The results point to significant softening and high plasticity of Al2O3 after irradiation with noble gas atoms. In all studied cases the friction coefficient decrease was observed; the effects of In implantation causing the formation of indium nanoprecipitates on alumina surface seem to be the most promising.
