Hyperfine and fine-structure measurements of 6,7Li+ 1s2s 3S and 1s2p 3P states -: art. no. 012506

The 1s2s S-3(1)-->1s2p P-3(1,2) transition in Li-6,7(+) was investigated by exciting a 5-6-keV ion beam with a nearly copropagating ring-dye laser beam. The laser scan was calibrated using an electro-optic modulator to generate frequency sidebands. Results for the Li-6(+) hyperfine splittings are an order of magnitude more precise than existing data in the literature and the Li-7(+) results resolve an 11-MHz (17sigma) discrepancy for the P-3(1-2) fine-structure interval as determined by two previous experiments. The results for 12 (all 13) measured hyperfine intervals in Li-6,7(+) are within 2sigma (3sigma) of the latest Hylleraas variational calculations.
