The problem of predicting accurate wind rose sector populations for sites in complex terrain with standard statistical methods is discussed. A new method for the calculation of sector populations is presented and illustrated with examples of wind data obtained in the UK. Assumptions of this new method are discussed and recommendations for its future use are made.
