摘要：

Different ways to recognize and cope up with the chronic imbalance between bandwidth and latency are discussed. A rule of thumb is stated to quantify it and an example to design systems differently based on the observation that bandwidth improves much more quickly than latency is also discussed. The scaling of semiconductor processes provides both faster transistors and many more on a chip. Technology improvements that help latency usually help bandwidth and spinning disks faster reduces the rotational latency.
