摘要
This paper reviews the state of light metals and their surface modification technologies. Emphasis is placed on comparisons of the performance of light metals with steels the most basic industrial materials, and also on that of those surface modification technologies which are important regarding the enhancement of the light metal value. Generally, it is understood that it is difficult to form hard and thick cases on light metals, however, several innovative technologies have been found recently. These innovative technologies and the associated research and development, working to meet the needs of the new millennium regarding industrial, environmental and ecological demands, especially regarding the importance of the surface modification technologies are discussed.
