摘要：

Despite the availability of an increasing number of antiretroviral drugs, many patients still fail to reach or maintain complete viral suppression. This is mainly due to the development of HIV drug resistance. In fact, viral replication is both a cause and a consequence of HIV drug resistance. Various factors have been involved in the appearance of resistance to antiretroviral drugs. These factors are related to the host, to drugs, to the physician, or to the virus. All these factors are at the same time causative agents or victims of HIV drug resistance. Various aspects of causes and consequence of drug resistance are discussed.
