Can diagenetic precipitation of carbonate nodules affect pore-water oxygen isotope ratios?

摘要
The idea that carbonate mineral precipitation, by preferentially removing O-18, can cause isotopic depletion in pore waters and subsequently precipitating minerals has been in the literature for 20 years (Irwin et al. 1977), A numerical model of the process shows that for calcite and dolomite precipitation such a mechanism is not viable for reasonable rates of precipitation, Siderite precipitation in marine environments is also not likely to be able to occur rapidly enough to deplete pore waters in O-18.
