摘要
Formulae for the averaged area of a generally astigmatic multimode beam focused in an absorbing medium are derived. Criteria of the minimum pump area of an end-pumped solid state laser in the case of a multimode, asymmetrical pump beam are formulated. The role of asymmetry parameter M-2 of the pumping beam, absorption coefficient and the length of the active medium are investigated. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
