This article discusses clinical (environmental) exposures that are independent risk factors for venous thromboembolism, including estimates of the magnitude of risk and the burden of disease in the community (eg, population attributable risk) that can be accounted for by each exposure. In addition, other diseases that have been associated with venous thromboembolism are discussed.
