Introduction: Heterotopic pregnancy is the rare coexistance of intrauterine and extrauterine gestation. The incidence may be as high as 1 in 3,889 pregnancies. The diagnosis is difficult to make, but an important one to consider in the presence of acute abdominal pain, hemorrhagic shock, and intrauterine pregnancy. Methods: Case report. Results: Successful treatment of ectopic pregnancy with benign convalescence and viable intrauterine pregnancy delivered at term. Conclusions: Every clinician treating women of reproductive age should keep this diagnosis in their differential, especially for pregnant women presenting with abdominal pain and hemoperitoneum. © Springer-Verlag 2006.
