摘要
The classical pathogenic vision of diabetes mellitus as a metabolic disorder has changed in the past years. Inflammation has been demonstrated as an important factor in the development of this disease, and moreover, inflammatory pathways play pivotal roles in the pathogenesis of diabetic complications. This new vision leads us to consider new therapeutic strategies. Modulation of inflammatory processes in the setting of diabetes may be an important therapeutic target with beneficial effects on diabetic complications.
