The article presents an analysis of existing approaches to calculating the volume of human capital on the level of the national economy. Possible approaches to calculating the retrospective dynamics of this indicator for Russia based on available statistical information are analyzed. The questions of constructing a model of the production function, comprising the index of human capital as a factor, are illustrated. © 2014 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.
