摘要
The vacuum photolysis of poly(phenylene ether) (PPE) under various types of radiation (254-365 nm) is reported. The photolysis observed in PPE in the solid state is characterized using FTIR analysis as a complement to UV spectroscopy. The primary photolytic process implies scission of the ether bond leading to the formation of phenoxy and phenyl radicals. Subsequently, benzyl radicals are formed. Photolysis products are identified as phenolic and quinone-methide structures and are responsible for yellowing of irradiated films.
