摘要
The effects of water soluble (acrylic and methacrylic acids) and highly hydrophilic (methyl acrylate) comonomers on the stability of emulsifier-free latexes (EFL) of hydrophobic monomers (styrene, butyl acrylate) have been studied. Stability of the latex increases with increasing concentration of monomeric acid, whereas there is a region of maximum stability in the case of methyl acrylate. The effects observed are explained by the difference in polymer-monomer (p/m) and polymer-polymer (p/p) interactions for the two types of comonomers.
