摘要
A potential new method of monitoring stress distributions and stress relaxtion in polymer materials and components is reported with some preliminary measurements on medium-density polyethylene. Ultrasonic bulk waves can be generated in a material of interest by non-contact methods. The dependence of back-scattered ultrasound on stress is novel in that the effect is large, and observable by non-contact methods.
