Phase equilibrium in the Nd-Ce-Cu-O system which is useful for crystal growth of Nd2-xCexCuO4 was determined by TG-DTA and EPMA. In the (Nd0.925Ce0.075)2O3+delta-CuO system, Nd1.85Ce0.15CuO4 melts incongruently at 1315-degrees-C, and decomposes to (Nd,Ce)2O3+delta and a liquid. The solid of Nd2-xCexCuO4 coexists in equilibrium with the liquid from 78 to 91 mol % CuO. In the Nd2-xCexCuO4 system. Nd2-xCexCuO4 solid solutions are formed in the range of 0.00 less-than-or-equal-to x less-than-or-equal-to 0.18 by a melt method. The distribution coefficient of Ce into Nd2CuO4 is larger than unity, and the solid of Nd1.85Ce0.15CuO4 coexists in equilibrium with the liquid of Ce content x = 0.02.
