NEW TERNARY CALCIUM AND YTTERBIUM SILVER ALUMINIDES WITH DIFFERENTLY STACKED SILVER ALUMINUM KAGOME NETS

摘要
The crystal structures of the intermediate ternary systems Ca(Yb)-Ag-Al contain Kagome nets in different stackings. YbAg0.3Al1.7 1 crystallizes as a ternary variant of the MgCu2 structure type with aluminium Kagome nets stacked in an ABC sequence. In the crystal structure of CaAg0.8Al1.2 2 (ternary variant of the MgZn2 structure type) aluminium Kagome nets are stacked with the sequence AB. Both compounds belong to the Laves phases. The crystal structures CaAg1.3Al1.7 3, YbAg1.3Al1.7 4, CaAg0.7Al2.3 5, YbAgAl2 6, CeAg0.9Al2.1 7, and PrAgAl2 8 are closely related to the Friauf-Laves phases, but with different stackings of the aluminium Kagome nets. In 3 and 4 the stacking of the nets corresponds to AABB, and the stacking in 5, 6, 7 and 8 corresponds to AABBCC (ternary variants of the CeNi3 and PuNi3 structure types). Correlations between electron concentration and variation of the stacking of the nets will be discussed.
