OBSERVATION OF NUCLEAR DIFFRACTION FROM MULTILAYERS WITH A FE/FE-57 SUPERSTRUCTURE

Nuclear diffraction from a (Fe5B4C/Fe5B4C)-Fe-57 multilayer has been observed. The reflectivity was measured by Mossbauer spectroscopy in grazing incidence geometry. A pure nuclear Bragg peak showed up at the expected position in the rocking curve. The energy dependence of the reflectivity was measured at different angles near the Bragg peak. The measurements are in good agreement with the theory. The use of nuclear resonant multilayers as monochromators for synchrotron radiation is discussed.
