摘要
Mercury is found to adsorb on to activated carbon in the form of Hg(CN)2 from cyanide solution. The Hg(CN)4(2-) species displays a negligible affinity for carbon. The adsorptive behaviour of mercuric cyanide species on to activated carbon is shown to be consistent with the distribution profile of the solution species. The adsorption of mercury from chloride solution occurs by reduction to the mercury (I) species, with subsequent precipitation of insoluble Hg2Cl2 within the pores of the carbon.
