摘要
The application of Bayes' Theorem to the interpretation of fibre transfer evidence requires an estimation of the number of foreign fibre types (or groups) on the recipient garment in question. The use of a non-specific average number is far from ideal as this could lead to an inaccuracy in the final calculation of the Likelihood Ratio. This work was carried out mainly to assess the feasibility of determining this number as accurately and practically as possible on a garment in a casework situation. The study has shown, for undergarments at least, that a reasonably accurate estimation of the number of foreign fibre groups present on a garment is a practical proposition and need not entail the tedious and time-consuming act of removing and mounting large numbers of fibres.
