STATIONARY DISSIPATION DUE TO QUANTUM CHAOS - SIMULATED LIGHT-ABSORPTION WITH QUANTUM MAPS

Light absorption by quantum nonintegrable systems with more than two degrees of freedom is simulated with the quantum Arnold's cat coupled with a few linear oscillators. Classically negligible coupling with the linear oscillators induces a phase transition through which stationary light absorption is achieved, if and only if the corresponding classical cat is chaotic. The absorption spectrum is an absolutely continuous spectrum on which an anomalous quantum component with an unresolvable self-similar structure is superimposed, and the Fourier transformed weight of the anomalous spectrum decays according to an inverse power taw. These features are generic in quantum maps and are explained theoretically very well by an approach based upon the semiclassical path integral.
