ANOMALOUS STAGGERED TRANSVERSE MOMENT IN HALDANE-GAP ANTIFERROMAGNET NENP UNDER MAGNETIC-FIELDS

摘要
The proton NMR of a quasi-one-dimensional S = 1 antiferromagnet NENP (Ni(C2H8N2)2NO2(ClO4)) has been performed in the applied magnetic field B up to 12 T. At 4.2 K, with the configuration B // chain-axis, a large transverse moment perpendicular to the magnetic field has been observed, even below the critical field. It is not due to the 3D-order but it is concluded by a field-induced staggered moment due to a combined action between the staggered tilt of the principal axes of g-tensor of Ni2+ ions from the crystal b-axis (chain-axis) and the large transverse staggered susceptibility. A simple formula is also proposed to analyze the proton spin-lattice relaxation.
