摘要
A model for fatigue crack initiation is presented based on accumulation of dislocations in slip bands modeled as elliptical domains with the domain size for tension being slightly different from that for compression. This takes account of irreversibility. Using continuous dislocation theory, an accumulation of dislocation dipoles was calculated at the boundary between the slip domain and the matrix. Good agreement between theoretical predictions and measured values for the cycles to initiation was obtained for Fe-3%Si and OFHC copper.
