OSMIUM ISOTOPES IN OPHIOLITES

摘要
Re and Os concentrations and Os isotopic composition are reported for ultramafic samples from ophiolites. These data may be divided into two groups: on the one hand, isotopic values higher than mean upper mantle (Os-187/Os-186 = 1.05) correspond to back-arc type ophiolites and could reflect injection of crustal material (sediments); on the other hand, ophiolites referred to as being typical N-MORB plot very close to previous estimates for mean upper mantle (1.05). Together with refined osmiridium results from well dated ultramafic suites, the data on ophiolites lead to the following constraints: (1) present-day Os-187/Os-186 for the upper mantle seems for the time being constrained around 1.05-1.06; (2) the mantle evolution curve for osmium isotopes through time, when associated to recent Os isotopic determinations from the literature for Archaean samples, shows a "chondritic" Re-187/Os-186 ratio of 3.33 and a linear, closed-system evolution.
